The Internet is a world wide collection of networked
computers which are able to exchange information with one another very
quickly. The computers that make up the Internet exchange
information using the same cables and general technology that your home
phone uses. Most people use the
Internet in two ways, e-mail and the
World Wide Web.
History lesson:
The Internet was originally developed by university
researchers and was funded by the United States Defense Department.
The Defense Department wanted its computer network to be able to
communicate effectively even if some sections were knocked out.
The Internet provides many possible pathways for information to
travel between computers.
